Pesarattu/Moong Dal Dosai - Pesarattu is a dosa which is made from green gram and rice batter. This is very easy to make yet it is highly nutritious. This is a very popular breakfast in Andhra Pradesh and it is often served with Ginger Chutney. But in Tamil Nadu, we often serve this with simple coconut chutney. If you serve this with rava upma inside, then it is called MLA pesarattu or Upma pesarattu.

I often make pesarattu for breakfast because of it's simple and quick to make. Just remember to soak the gram the previous night. Next day for breakfast, you just have to grind this and make dosai. Ginger chutney and pesarattu combo is one of my recent find and I love it. I posted the recipe for Ginger Chutney too. AS I said coconut chutney also taste very good with pesarattu. Make this pesarattu dosa and serve hot!!

2Add the soaked green gram and rice to the mixer along with chopped ginger, cumin seeds, green chilli. Grind this to a smooth batter by adding the soaked water little by little. The batter has to be slightly thick like regular dosa batter. Do not add lot of water. Finally, add enough salt and mix well.

3Now, heat a dosa griddle. Once it becomes hot, grease the tawa with oil. Pour little batter and spread it with the base of the laddle into a thin round shape. Drizzle a teaspoon of oil/ghee around and top of the pesarattu. Now, smooth the dosa surface by gently pressing and spreading the dosa with the steel spatula as shown in below pic.

4Top the pesarattu with chopped onion and chopped coriander leaves. Cook the dosa till it becomes golden brown and cooked well. Cook the dosa over medium flame only not in high flame. Once the dosa is done, fold it into half or roll the dosa and serve. Enjoy these hot pesarattu with coconut chutney or ginger chutney!!

NOTES

Do not cook the pesarattu on high flame otherwise it won't cook.

Use cooked onion for topping instead of raw onions if desired.

Here, I made thin crispy dosai. But you can make thick dosai too, just make sure to flip the dosa and cook on the other side too.
